I received an inspirational card in the mail today. I read it and realized how really profound the words were to me. I'd like to share them with each of you.
Making a Difference
An old man walked up a shore littered with thousands of starfish, beached and dying after a storm. A young man was picking them up and flinging them back into the ocean. "Why do you bother?" the old man scoffed. "You're not saving enough to make a difference." The young man picked up another starfish and sent it spinning back to the water. "Made a difference to that one," he said.
You make a difference every day.

These words made me think of my service to others as a therapist. Although I can't save all of the people in the world, perhaps I can lend a hand along the way to those in my own little corner of the world. I was fortunate enough to find a therapist many years ago who 'got' me and my 'story'...I owe my life to her. Now it's my turn to pay the favor forward. My life has not been easy, but I've been blessed and have made it. Now I have the opportunity to help others as they find their way to a happier path in their own life's journey. If ever I can help to you in your current situation (no matter how difficult), I'd be honored to do so.
