Getting to Know Monica

Monica Boknecht is licensed to practice in the State of Kansas as a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT). She is working towards her Clinical Licensure while under the post-graduate supervision of J. Michelle Robertson, M.S., LCMFT, PhD. Monica specializes in individual, couples, family, and group psychotherapy and maintains a private practice with Emotional Journey, in Wichita, KS. She is a 2009 graduate of Friends University with a Masters of Science (MSFT) degree in Marriage and Family Therapy. Monica provided service to clients at First Step Counseling, located in downtown Wichita and the Center on Family Living, located on the campus of Friends University during her internship. At the internship sites she provided psychotherapy services, as well as facilitating psycho-educational groups for adolescents that focused on anger management and addictions. Many of the individuals that Monica worked with were dealing with depression, anxiety, relationship issues, alcohol and/or drug addictions, parenting issues, eating disorders, sexual abuse, and other problems and disorders. She is experienced in working with a broad spectrum of clients. Her strengths as a clinician are most evident while working with those who struggle with issues related to relationship difficulties, personal growth issues, adjustment to life changes, trauma, domestic abuse, and/or childhood abuse, conflictual parent-child interactions, and with those struggling to communicate more effectively. Monica works to hand craft her treatment approach in order to meet the specific needs of each client seen. She places an emphasis on intergenerational family patterns which might be causing difficulty for her clients and their families while also looking at each presenting issue through a lens that is tinted with Attachment, Contextual, Emotion-Focused, and Cognitive-Behavioral theories. By providing support and feedback in a genuine and compassionate way she hopes to help each client realize the potential for a healthy, happy, well-balanced life that awaits them.
